  An excellent response by Tressie McMillan Cottom to EdNext’s ideas about making Pell Grants available only to the “college ready”, a proposal that, she reports, made her cuss a lot.

  “Well, when those who won’t need Pell grants to send their kids to college are defining all the terms and conditions, “college readiness” is just a poll tax by another name.”
