Snow, snow, snow

I miss the midwestern snows of my childhood.  I hear from family that it’s white there already.  Meanwhile here in the Northwest, there isn’t even snow yet in the mountains.

So when WordPress offered snow for the holidays, I jumped aboard, even while the effect is somewhat lost on this white blog.

Class related?  Well, I could talk about walking to school in the freezing cold and snow as a child… but let’s just leave it with winter cheer  🙂

I will switch the Midwest for the Northwest, and its lack of snow, any day! Yesterday it was 16 degrees. I don’t expect it to get much warmer for, what, five months? Last year we had snow in the beginning of June!

Ah, the grass is always … whiter?

I think that my ideal would be a month of snow and then back to sun and warmth.

      Stay warm Allison!

I wouldn’t trade a single snowflake in Minnesota for the damp just-above-freezing winters in the mid-atlantic region (Delaware valley, specifically) where I grew up.

I’ve shoveled three times in the last week. It’s GREAT exercise in the winter. And it makes the drab landscape look so pretty.

I talked to my mom last night and they were in the midst of a highway-closing (never happens!)storm that had already dropped 12 inches. I can hear the roar of the snow blowers now.

And those hardy souls will carry on without blinking.

    These are my people.

Meanwhile, excitement is building here — temperatures are dropping and the “s” word is in the forecast for at least the mountains. Thus will begin the run on canned goods and milk at the grocery store while at home, the collective refreshing of the National Weather Service’s “Special Weather Statement” web page may crash the servers.

    Stay tuned!
